A replica of ZZ Top’s Eliminator hot rod was written off when it flipped during a 1950s style cruise reducing the £50,000 motor to scrap.
Police say the low-lung motor hit a rock in the road which bounced it onto a kerb which ripped off its front axle and twisted its chassis.
Owner Eric Mauer, from Buers, Austria – who’d spent years adapting the 1932 Ford donor car – said: “I’m devastated. Seeing it there wrecked without its wheels – it feels like I’ve lost my own legs.”
Now – to add insult to injury – police are billing Eric for the cost of clearing up the road of oil and petrol spilled in the crash.
