England’s secret weapon revealed

The secret weapon that has swept England into the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 has been revealed a £2.65 hair gel.

Superstitious players reportedly believe Wayne Rooney’s winning goal was down to some ‘product’ borrowed from pony-tailed striker Andy Carroll.

The Sun newspaper says a “special probe” has identified it as Wella Shockwaves Ultra Strong Rock & Hold Gel Styler.

Fans saw Rooney celebrate his goal against Ukraine by jokingly waggling his index finger over his £30,000 transplanted hair to mimic spraying gel.

Afterwards he revealed he’d agreed the cheeky celebration after borrowing the hair product from Carroll.

Carroll in turn had borrowed it from team mate Jordan Henderson who had bought it for £2.65 from his local supermarket in Liverpool.

Carroll is said to have used the gel before scoring key goals against Blackburn and rivals Everton in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

The Sun quoted a source as saying: “England are gelling nicely just at the right time and the boys swear by this stuff. They’re convinced it’s their lucky charm.”

Rooney quipped later: “I used a bit of Andy Carroll’s product. Hopefully I’ll end up with hair like him.”

His admission sparked ribbing from TV pundit Jamie Carragher who joked: “Any lad born in Liverpool, in Croxteth, should not be wearing any product.”
